What Happens During a CranioSacral Therapy Session?

Published on 21 September 2026 at 19:30

If you've never experienced CranioSacral Therapy before, you may wonder what actually happens during a session.

Will you need to talk about what's wrong? Will there be pressure or massage? What will you feel?

CranioSacral Therapy is a very gentle form of hands-on therapy, and the experience can be quite different from what you might expect from a typical body treatment.

Before your session

When you arrive at Bridge Therapies, there is time to talk before we begin.

You don't need to arrive knowing exactly what you need. We can talk about what's brought you in and anything you'd like me to be aware of.

The intention is to make the session feel comfortable and unhurried from the beginning.

During the treatment

You remain fully clothed and lie comfortably on the treatment table.

I use very gentle contact at different areas of the body. There is no deep pressure, massage or manipulation.

The touch is subtle, and there may be periods of stillness.

You don't need to concentrate, talk or do anything in particular. You can simply rest and notice whatever you notice.

Some people become very deeply relaxed. You might notice warmth, movement, a change in breathing or other subtle sensations. You may become aware of areas of tension or simply feel very comfortable and still.

There is no right or wrong way to experience a session.

Do I have to talk during the treatment?

No.

Some people enjoy chatting before, during or after their treatment, while others prefer quiet during the session.

I may dialogue with you about sensations you may be noticing if you are interested.

At Bridge Therapies, there is space for either. You can choose what feels most comfortable for you.

What happens afterwards?

I allow time at the end of the session rather than rushing you straight back into the rest of your day.

You may feel relaxed, quiet or simply different in some way. Everyone responds differently, and there is no particular experience you are expected to have.

I encourage you to take a little time afterwards if you can, rather than immediately rushing into your next task.

How long is a CranioSacral Therapy session?

At Bridge Therapies, an initial CranioSacral Therapy session is 75 minutes, with follow-up sessions of 60 minutes.

The first session allows a little more time to talk, settle in and get to know how you respond to the treatment.

Is CranioSacral Therapy suitable for me?

CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle approach and can appeal to people who prefer subtle rather than vigorous bodywork.

You don't have to be experiencing a particular problem to book a session. You may simply be looking for some time to slow down and reconnect with your body.

If you're unsure whether CranioSacral Therapy is right for you, you're welcome to get in touch before booking.
